September 11, Terrorist attacks on World Trade Center and Pentagon. “War on Terror”- Invasion of Afghanistan 2001 Invasion of Iraq Saddam Hussein was believed to have weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs). Hussein was deposed and executed. Increased military spending = rising debt. Hurricane Katrina levees designed by Army Corps of Engineers broke in New Orleans, floods and wind devastated the region.
