3 What is an academic advisor?

4 If you have a question and you don’t know who to ask or where to go, start with us!

5 WE CAN… - help you get to know Nichols better, especially college policies as they relate to academics. - help answer your questions about classes, academic resources, majors/minors/concentrations, etc. - meet with you to discuss strategies to improve your academic performance.

6 - meet with you to review general education requirements and pre-requisites for your classes. - meet with you to talk about how to add or drop a course. - meet with you to discuss graduation requirements.

9 REGISTRATION REVIEW Resources on myNichols – are they helpful?
Registration process – was it easy to follow? Schedule review will occur on Day 2 – (All schedules will be checked by an advisor, anyone without a schedule will create one.) Any lingering questions from the academic session this morning?

10 What are we looking for during the Registration session tomorrow?
We will review: Number of credits (14-16) Number of courses per day (preferably no more than 3) Type of classes Did you drop College Billing? Do you have a PDS class? Were you placed in a Math, Accounting, CJM/LEAD, PDS, or ITM class? Are they still on your schedule? What is your major? Are you taking a class you may be getting credit for (AP, transfer course, dual enrolled, etc.)?

11 SUMMER CHECKLIST: Before classes begin on Monday, August 28, you should…

12 Access your Nichols e-mail and begin to check it DAILY.
Review instructions on how to have your sent to your smart phone.

13 Save money from every summer paycheck so you have it to pay for your textbooks in the fall.

14 Transcripts & Test Scores
Send them to us before you arrive this fall! The Registrar needs to review them to determine what you will get credit for and how.

15 Talk with your parents/guardians about:
Finances Impact that GPA can have on your financial aid Academic expectations (theirs and yours) Access to grades/FERPA Your class schedule

16 Decide how you will stay organized and get the supplies you will need to help.
Stapler Notebooks Pens/pencils File folders Paper clips Highlighters Copy paper

17 Discuss with your roommate(s) if one of you will bring a printer.

18 You will receive a Nichols College planner
You will receive a Nichols College planner Review strategies about how to utilize it.

19 Get business attire.
