Freshman Art Appreciation In Freshman Art Appreciation, students will be working with a range of media and our projects will include: technical drawing, watercolor painting and mixed media. Students will learn various essential art techniques along with an appreciation for art history and culture. Students will leave this class with a basic understanding of a range of art materials and an overall respect and enjoyment of the visual arts. The emphasis in this class is on: effort, creativity, attitude, respect and participation. I want the art room to be an open place where students are free to express themselves through creative thinking. I value positive attitudes to ensure positive learning!

Sophomore Continuing Art In Sophomore Continuing Art, students will be working with a range of materials and our projects will include: collage, clay sculpture, drawing, acrylic painting, mixed media, charcoal drawing and pastel drawing. Students will gain a mastery of drawing and painting and build upon their knowledge of the visual arts. The emphasis in my class is on: effort, creativity, attitude, respect and participation. I want the art room to be an open place where students are free to express themselves through creative thinking. I value positive attitudes to ensure positive learning !

Polices & Rules Attendance: You are expected to attend each class since I expect to move along sequentially and you will need the class discussions and demonstrations to complete each project. Being on Time: This class begins at the bell. You are expected to be promptly in your assigned seat by the second bell. Respect: In this class, each student will be treated with dignity and is expected to treat everyone else with dignity. Respect the classroom and all art materials. Respect for your teacher. Please do not speak when the teacher is speaking. Always raise your hand and never call out in class. Ask questions when you do not understand. I expect everyone to learn and work in a respectful environment. Preparing for class: Please always come to class prepared. Be ready to work and hand in all assignments on time. Sketchbook: You will be required to have a sketchbook (no smaller then 8x6). You will divide your sketchbook into two sections. Section one will be used for class notes, art terms and definitions. Section two will be used for homeworks and extra credit.

Homework: I will correct your homework at the end of each week. No assignment will be accepted late. You will receive a zero for an incomplete homework. Projects: Hand in all projects and homework on time. Assignments are due the day they are assigned during class. No late work will be accepted unless you meet with me to discuss extra time to work etc. Absolutely no gum, candy, cell phones, I pods or walkmans in the art room. Extra help: The art studio will be open after school on Tuesday afternoons until 4:00. If additional time is needed please meet with me to set up a time to work. Extra Credit: You may always hand in extra credit, as long as your regular work is complete. I will also make you aware of any extra credit assignments and readings. Table Helpers: Each class a new table number is listed on the board. The responsibility of this table is to help me keep the classroom running. The members of this table are responsible to take out any needed supplies and help with clean up procedures. If you fail to abide by any of these rules you will be issued demerits and 5 points will be deducted from your last project grade.

Required Materials: – Sketchbook with your name on the cover ( blank white drawing paper) – Pencils and erasers – Pencil sharpener ( $1 at staples)

Grading: Projects 70% Homework 20% Class participation/Effort/Attitude & Respect 10% Project grades are based on the following criteria: Creativity Understanding of new technique and materials Effort and time on task Overall artistic growth and ability
