4 Who is counted? Persons counted in the Point-in-Time count include persons who are literally homeless on the night of January 24th, This includes both sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons. We use existing HMIS to compile the majority of the sheltered count data Sheltered Literally Homeless - an individual or family living in a supervised publicly or privately operated shelter designated to provide temporary living arrangement (including congregate shelters, transitional housing, and hotels and motels paid for by charitable organizations or by federal, state, or local government programs for low-income individuals).

6 All Providers Should Verify Data
Although emergency shelter, safe haven and transitional projects are the only projects included in the PIT Sheltered Count, CoCs are required to report occupancy numbers for all projects on the HIC for the night of the Point-in-Time. Because of this, ALL HMIS providers should verify their data for the night of January 24th to be sure it is accurate and complete. Providers should use participation reports to check their data. Certifications do not need to be sent by projects that are not shelter, safe haven, or transitional projects.
