To make the past tense, you need 3 things:
Subject pronoun (the word that tells us who did the action) Have/has (from the verb avoir) 2. 1. 3.. ai as a avons avez ont J’ Tu Il/Elle Nous Vous Ils/Elles past participle, Eg joué

The Perfect Tense We have won two matches this year. j’ tu il/elle
You use this to describe a completed action in the past. e.g. I played football last week. We have won two matches this year. 3. Then you add a verb to say what the person did
When you look up a verb in the dictionary, it will show you the INFINITIVE. Infinitives mean ‘to _______’, e.g. ‘to play’. In French, infinitives always end in either ER, IR or RE. To talk about the past, you have to change the ending on the infinitive, e.g. to play played. This is called the PAST PARTICIPLE. Look at the verbs below – can you work out how they change? The Perfect Tense (le passé composé)
This is used to describe a completed action in the past, e.g: I played football last week. SUBJECT j’ tu il/elle nous vous ils/elles AVOIR ai as a avons avez ont PAST PARTICIPLE ‘-er’ verbs - Remove r Add an accent on the last e é I have You have He/she has We have They have ‘-ir’ verbs - Remove r ‘-re’ verbs - Remove re - Add u Not all verbs follow these rules for past participles.
