There has been a change in the procedure of filling the Athlete’s Agreement. All Athletes will have to fill in their data on their Admin page of the ITU Website. If you need logins please contact Following the Briefing, you will sign the Agreement by filling in your name, date [both IN CAPITALS] and signature, then presenting before collecting your race package

15 Handers & Swim Exit Handlers
Personal handlers must have registered and are subject to the ITU Competition Rules. They will be issued with a Handler Vest and race number, to be able to access the Transition area and must stay within 2 metres of their athlete’s transition spot Swim Exit Swim exit assistants will be available at the swim exit to assist athletes to exit the water and to Pre Transition based upon an athletes swim cap colour they requested

17 Timing Chips – where to wear

18 Allowed Equipment - Uniform
Swim Leg and arm covers are allowed Wetsuits up to 5mm thickness Vest warmers are NOT allowed Gloves are NOT permitted Any part of the body maybe covered except the face, hands and feet No prosthesis socks, unless the pins are adequately covered. This will be checked PTVI1 athletes must wear black-out goggles during the swim – can only be removed when at transition

19 Allowed Equipment - Uniform
Athletes can wear long sleeved shirt under their uniform – it must be worn for the entire event Athletes will not be able to remove the shirt at any time during the event Arm covers can be worn and can be removed during the event BUT only in Transition. Do not remove during the race and hand to someone else. This will lead to DSQ PTVI1 athletes must wear black-out glasses on both bike and run If you prefer to wear a jacket during the event, it must be clear/transparent or your National Federation’s.

20 Transition A chair will be provided for each of the athletes
To add anything to the bike, approval is to be obtained from the Race referee at the end of this Briefing Only Athletes and their Handlers will be allowed into the transitions Running shoes on the ground, helmet on the bike Do not leave your helmet strap fastened in the transition Athlete who does not comply with this rule will receive a 10 second time penalty in TA1

22 Pre Start Procedure Athletes’ Introduction:
10 minutes before your start, line up before entrance to start area: ramp/pre transition area Staggered Start - Each wave will start at an exact time The start order will be by category, then race number You will be introduced Please follow instructions promptly

23 Start Procedure Deep water start, holding onto the start frame:
Wait for the signal of the Race Referee to get into the water. Move to the swim start frame Select a position and hold onto the start frame When all athletes are in position you will be in the starters hands The start can be given at any time after the starter announces “On your mark” Air horn/whistle blast The race starts

24 False Start Procedures
False start - Example 1: Several horn blasts Paddle Boarders in front of you Athletes go back to their starting spot False start - Example 2: If someone moves forward before the horn, the early starter(s) will receive a 10 second time penalty in T1 During the time penalty, the athlete(s) can not touch any race equipment

25 Swim course Water temperature: 17.9C
- The final decision on the use of wetsuits will be made 1 hour before race start. It will be posted in the Athletes lounge One lap of 750m (total distance 750m) Distance to the first turn buoy - 300metres Keep all turn buoys on your right; a clockwise swim Take your cap, goggles, wetsuit to transition and place in your box

26 Swim Course Map

27 PTVI Swim Conduct Each athlete must be tethered to their own guide during the swim. At no time may a guide lead or pace the competitor nor propel them forward by pulling or pushing. The guide must swim next to the athlete within a maximum separation distance of 1.5m from the athlete’s head to the guide’s head. The tether should be elastic rope with bright or reflective colour and up to 0.8m long measured with no tension. It can be fixed at any point of the athletes' body. Guide’s head can be at any point with the two red hemispheres next to the athlete, as shown above, if outside these areas, it will be considered as a violation.

28 Swim Exit Assistance Swim exit assistance only by the LOC Assistants.
They will provide support to all athletes according to their swim cap color. No Personal Handlers allowed to assist at Swim Exit Free Leading Zones: contact is allowed 10 meters before and after Transition area swim exit, pre-transition area.

29 Pre Transition Area Athletes’ registered equipment (prosthesis, crutches, day chairs) next to numbered chair Chairs for wetsuit removal PTVI athletes are not allowed to use the pre-transition area Only PTWC Handlers are allowed in this area PTWC athletes must transfer in a daily wheelchair from pre-transition to transition No wetsuit removal by TOs or volunteers

30 Transition Area Transition Layout:
The Transition is laid out, with each athlete’s area defined by markings on the transition surface Individual Bike Racks; Name, Number, Country Code and Flag Bikes - Traditional A frame Bike Racks - rack bike by seat, front wheel facing outwards Tandem Bikes - lengthways against the rack Handcycles / Wheel chairs - within the athletes area Running shoes by your box, helmet can be on the bike Bags/other equipment to the Athletes Lounge

31 Transition Area PTVI1 must put on blackout glasses immediately after arriving at the assigned space inside T1 Helmet MUST be fastened before unracking bike Personal Handlers moving to the Wheel Stop should inform the TOs that they are going there PTWC athletes must put the bib at the back of the handcycle and racing wheelchair All used equipment (except mobility equipment) in the box

32 Transition Flows All used equipment; wetsuit, swim cap, goggles to be in your box Mount Line at the end of the TA (GREEN LINE) Dismount line at the beginning of TA (RED LINE) PTS2-5 & PTVI – mount/dismount your bike past/before the mount/dismount line at the end of the paved area PTWC – shall Stop completely at the mount and dismount line. The Technical official will advise when you can continue

From transition, proceed to road, turning right onto the flat bike course Hazards - Speed Bumps at: bike exit, passing the Surf Club and the rail crossing on Coles Beach Road 90 degree left hand bend off North Street Two way bike traffic on course Lap Counter / Wheel Station: Just before the bike turn outside Transition Penalties: Any penalties will be served at the Run course Penalty Box, located at the start of the Run Course

36 Bike Course - Draft Illegal
Non drafting zone: 10m from their front wheel to your front wheel Maximum 20 seconds allowed to pass Blue Card shown for drafting penalty In case of penalty, stop at the Run Penalty Box – 1 minute Not stopping or second drafting offence – DSQ It is the athletes responsibility to stop at the Penalty Box

37 Other Infringments Yellow Card for other infringements – e.g. littering If a penalty is received, stop at the Run Penalty Box 10 sec It is the athletes responsibility to stop at the Penalty Box

38 Caution signal: sharp whistles and red flags

39 Run course 2 laps of 2.5km = 5km
Free Leading zones: contact is allowed 10 meters before and after the following: Aid station Run turns Penalty Box Aid stations: 1 per lap (in the carpark just after the turnaround) Water Discard plastic bottles within designated Litter Zones At the end of the last lap, exit run course and proceed down blue carpet to Finish line Photo-finish camera will be operating

42 If you do not serve your penalty at the Penalty Box = DSQ
The Penalty Box is for penalties received from: T1, Bike, T2 and Run Location: Just after the Run turnaround near carpark Penalty Notification: Your race number will be shown on the Penalty Box white board (Athletes need to read the board - coaches are advised to check and inform their athletes) Procedure: Run Penalty to be served on any lap of the run. Penalties from T1, Bike and T2 must be served on the first lap i.e. cannot pass the Penalty Box without serving penalty on the first lap Penalty Times: Drafting = 1 minute; Other/Stop Go = 10 seconds If you do not serve your penalty at the Penalty Box = DSQ

43 Rule Interpretations Mounting before the mount line: Athlete must have at least one foot on the ground after the mount line. If this contact doesn't occur the athlete is considered to have mounted the bike before the mount line. Handcycle athletes must stop/go at the mount line as per a TO’s direction. Dismounting after the dismount line: Athlete must place at least one foot on the ground floor before the dismount line. If this contact does not occur, the athlete is considered to have dismounted the bike after the dismount line. Handcycle athletes must stop/go at the dismount line as per a TO’s direction. Discharge or store your equipment inside your own box: Leave your equipment (swim cap, goggles, helmet, etc.) in your designated box.

44 Post-race Procedures “Mixed Zone” - immediately after finish 1, 2, 3 placed athletes with media and local broadcaster Medal Presentation – approx. at 15:15 Dress “up” and you will be checked before going out for the presentation for unapproved sponsor advertising

45 Post-race Procedures Anti-Doping Control
Photo ID is needed for every athlete to have ready for Doping Control, if selected

46 Coaches Accreditation
Accreditations will be distributed to those that have been entered through the online system from their NF Coaches will have access to: Athletes’ Lounge/Post Recovery Area Swim Start Area Penalty Box Area Wheel Station Area

47 Handlers Notes Personal handers are specifically allowed to assist paratriathletes by: Helping with prosthetic devices/assistive devices Lifting the participants in and out of handcycles and wheelchairs Removing wetsuits or clothing Repairing flats, punctures and helping with other equipment

48 Handlers Notes All handlers shall be subjected to the ITU
Competition Rules Any action taken by the Handler which propels the competitor forward may at the discretion of the Race Referee, be grounds for a time penalty or disqualification Personal handlers can only assist with their athlete ITU has to approve the need of handlers for the PTS2, PTS3, PTS4 and PTS5 athletes
