2. Unexpected Consonant Spellings
Some words have consonants that make no sound. You see them and have to write them, but you don’t hear them when you say the word.
For example:
scratch- (t is silent) wrist – (w is silent) knock – (k is silent)

3. itch
The dog had an itch behind his ear.

4. wreck
The drivers of these cars got in a wreck, but luckily they were not hurt.

5. knee
His coach put ice on his knee when he fell during the game and hurt it.

6. patch Sometimes you have to wear a patch on your eye if you hurt it.
A boy scout will get a new patch for his shirt when he completes a new activity.

7. wrap A wrap is my favorite kind of sandwich.
Presents look better when you wrap them.

8. knot
When something is tied in a knot, it can be hard to untie it.

9. watch This watch makes telling time really easy!
My dog will always watch out the window for us to come home.

10. knife
Using a knife helps you cut things easily, but you need to use them safely.

11. stretch
She got up to stretch her body as she started to wake up.

12. write
She was working hard to write her story well.

13. knew
The boy raised his hand because he knew the answer to the teacher’s question.

14. knock
It is always polite to knock on a door before you open it.

15. match Her socks do not match.
Grown ups can use a match to light candles when the power goes out.
