December 8, 2016 Bellwork: When the bell rings, I am going to pass out a sheet for you to do. It shouldn’t take you long. Do not use the notes in your packet and do not ask anyone. See what you can answer by yourself. This is practice for the quiz over these terms tomorrow. After you are finished, come get the sheet at my desk and start working on it.

Attitude What is the speaker’s attitude, or tone, in the writing? Use the sheet I gave you on Friday over tone words if you need to. Shifts Is there a time in the poem that something changes? It could either be the structure of the poem, the tone of the poem, or a different idea in the poem.

Title Does the title have any special meaning? Does it have more than a surface-level meaning? Theme What is the poem really about? What universal experience or truth does the selection show?

“Casey at the Bat” Turn to page 39 in your packet.
We are going to read the poem “Casey at the Bat” together. Before we read, write the title of the poem where it says “title of the poem.” Make a prediction about the poem based on the title before we read. What do the words of the title suggest to you? Write this on the first T row in the TPCAST-T diagram.

TP-CASTT over a poem of your choosing
Please take your SpringBoard book from the table. Choose and read one of the poems on pages from the SpringBoard book. Nikki Rosa Hanging Fire We Real Cool Ode to My Socks Fast Break Abuelito Who Identity Sonnet 18 Ego Tripping Fill out the TP-CASTT sheet for your poem (page 39 in your packet). Fill it out completely. The more information included, the more likely a high grade. This is not group or partner work. Please work quietly.

Dec. 14, 2016 Take the review packet at the table.
I’ll go over it with you in a few minutes. Bellwork: Finish your TPCAST-T over “Casey at the Bat” and answer the questions over the poem.

Dec. 15, 2016 Please finish the review packet independently at your assigned seat. Remember, it is worth 10 points extra credit on Monday. I will go over some of it at the end of class. If or when you are finished with it, please work to prepare for other finals quietly at your desk so others have the opportunity to finish.
