WHILE WE READ Mark the text on pgs
WHILE WE READ Mark the text on pgs for influences on Burton’s films. Next, answer the questions under Key Ideas and Details. We will discuss our answers after we read. Let’s read!
5
VINCENT Before we write a main idea statement, we will watch a short video created by Burton. While watching, write down words that describe his style.
6
AFTER READING Look at what you marked in Burton’s biographical essay, and at what you wrote down from the video. List 3 subjects or key points that you found. Now, turn and talk to someone near you about your subjects and key points. Do you have any in common?

MAIN-IDEA SENTENCE Turn to page 135 in your textbook
MAIN-IDEA SENTENCE Turn to page 135 in your textbook. Fill in the blanks with your subjects and two adjective phrases to write a main-idea sentence. Adjective phrases: What words describe his style as a director? Use two adjectives that work together to make an adjective phrase. An example of an adjective phrase is “gothic darkness.”
8
LET’S SEE IF YOU UNDERSTAND Once you have written your main-idea statement, use your notes to write a paragraph to support that statement. This statement is now your topic sentence. Be sure to choose details about Burton and his style that support your topic sentence. Organize the sentences, and use correct grammar.
