2 Her Story She was born on 3 May 1977 and died 14 July 2017
Maryam died at the age of 40 due to cancer, she had a six year old daughter called Anahita Vondráková

3 Her Fame Maryam Mirzakhani was the first woman to win Mathematics' Fields Medal. Mirzakhani said she enjoyed pure mathematics because of the elegance and longevity of the questions she studied. She also said ‘the more time she done math the more exited she got to do it again’

4 Her growth mindset Maryam shared that she approached maths problems as detective work, of needing to solve an intriguing puzzle. She talked about her fascination of looking at the same problem from different perspectives and approaching it using different methods. Maryam shared publicly that she struggled with maths as a child – as everyone does – and was even told by her 6th grade teacher that she was not good at maths. Fortunately for the world she met teachers who believed in her later in her life, including the mathematician Yahya Tabesh who was Maryam’s University mentor and who works at youcubed. 

5 The Fields Medal Nicknamed the "Nobel Prize for Mathematics", the Fields Medal is only awarded every four years to between two and four mathematicians under 40 and Maryam was one of the people to win. She was the first female to win this award
