To Notebook paper maximize our time for Writing utensils learning, please bring the following supplies with you (pen or pencil) Highlighters (2 different colors) to class everyday: Book you are reading Planner How we do things: Grades Student Expectations Be Responsible Be in your seat when the bell rings. Use the passing period before class for restroom/ locker needs. Bring binder, pen/pencil and paper, planner, library book to class everyday. Be Respectful Respect yourself, your classmates, LHJHS staff, and the possessions of others. Respect your time and the time of others; use class time wisely and do not disturb others. Put Effort and Quality into All You Do Anything worth doing is worth doing right. 50% 50% Tests, Independent Reading, Major writing assignments & Projects Daily work Class progress reports will be sent home via , so please have an updated address on file with the office. Parents and students are strongly encouraged to check Skyward Family Access on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class. Consequences Verbal warning will be issued during a brief teacher/student conference. Parent contact via or phone call. Lunch Detention: short time spent during lunch to contemplate conduct. Referral to Administration: a student will be immediately referred to administration for severe or persistent behavior problems.

Independent Reading Expectations
8th grade ELA Mrs. Patterson Assignment Policy If you are absent… All assignments are expected to be turned in by your class period on the day it is due. Assignments turned in one day late will will be graded to a maximum of 70; assignments that are more than 2 days late will be referred to Homework Hall for a maximum grade of 50. *If you are having difficulty with an assignment, come to tutorials before or after school. I am here to help!. Upon return to school, students are responsible for picking up his or her missed assignments. Students will be allowed the number of days equal to the number of days they were absent to complete the assignments. (If you are absent for 3 days, you will have 3 days to complete the assignments.) If the assignment was received before the absence, it is due upon return to school. Please give notice several days in advance for extended absences that are known ahead of time. Independent Reading Expectations Students in Language Arts are expected to read one book (minimum of 5 AR points) per calendar month, September through May. Students in Advanced Language Arts are expected to read two books, one free choice (minimum 5 AR points) and one Book Challenge book per month September through May. Upon completing the book(s), students will complete a “One-Pager,” a one-page reflection of the book read and take an AR test to monitor comprehension. Students may complete the One-Pager and take the AR test at their own pace, as long as both are turned in on or before the due date. Plagiarism Tutorials Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. Tutorials are offered every day before school from 7:30-7:50 and after school from 3:40-4:15. Students can benefit by attending tutorials if they have been absent, have questions on an assignment, or require further instruction. Tutorials may be required if a student’s grade is below 75.
