Reading: Literal and Non-literal meanings, Predictions
Language arts:
Word study- dictation, sentences, spelling
Grammar- past tense verb rules; doubling the consonant when adding ending rules
Writing- expository writing with an assigned topic
Math: Subtracting and adding 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping; checking addition with subtraction

Teacher’s note
We are moving right along in 2nd grade!
As the second semester of the school year progresses, students will become more
independent in their classroom assignments and
weekly assessments. Tomorrow I will be sending home a copy of their very first completely independent reading assessment. This means that students were responsible for completing all aspects of the assessment independently including
reading the story, performing the test
taking strategies that we have been
working on, and answering all of the
questions on their own. For their first
completely independent assessment,
the kids did well! Please continue to
encourage your child to read their AR
books nightly as well as work on RAZ-
KIDS. This will help improve upon their
reading skills and their assessments.
