1 How does the addition of different types of solutes affect the freezing point of water?
Words to Know!

2 Solute A solid substance that is DISOLVED INTO a liquid (solvent)
When a solute is added to a solvent- an aqueous solution is made Concentration is how MUCH solute is added. High concentration = a lot of solute vs. solvent Low concentration = little solute vs. solvent

3 Cooling Curve A graph that shows what happens to a substance (water) as the temperature drops over time

4 Condensation point/freezing point
The point on the cooling curve when the temperature of steam (water) STOPS changing and liquid water begins to develop The point on the cooling curve when the temperature of liquid water STOPS and the water be to form ice BUT…. WHY????

5 Electrolyte/nonelectrolyte
When solute is added to solvent, ions break up allowing electricity to flow Electrolytes are IONIC compounds! Nonelectrolytes DO NOT conduct electricity Nonelectrolytes are covalent compounds!
