The development of A.I By: Medhanit Mamo and Jiaqi Yuan

2 What is AI? Talk about the current definition of A.I. Additionally A.I effect. Give examples of technology or devices that use A.I today The use of AI in industry applications has been around for long time but now more of it is seen in daily user applications like phones

3 Major Figures Alan Turing John McCarthy
State there are also other major figures that are not included but these are the figures contributing to the direction of A.I research and the structuring and organization of the field in the modern day. John McCarthy built LISP one of the languages used in developing programs of A.I campabilities. Alan turing’s test is not accurate representation of intelligence because of the many factors like the judges etc but serves as a guide in the field

4 Timeline Talk about these events especially the interesting ones at length to kill time.

6 Applications of AI This is the why is it important question. It is important because of the applications of this technology and the possible improvements it can bring to our lives. This is again only the applications known by people not in the industry but the application of A.I goes well beyond its use in phones and cars. It can be used as an assistant in completing a certain tasks in different industries(it is a component that compliments certain systems)

7 Benefits to society Efficient Increased productivity
Decrease human limitation in research Dangerous tasks Cost effective Repetitive tasks It is very efficient with no error if proper variables are present Since machines do not rest there will be more work done………..no limitations on research that require things that cannot be created in real life (simulations) Dangerous task can be done using machines including research like on the ocean floor and space……..once made its is cost effective with little maintenance and the human force doing more challenging creative work……..it does repettive tasks better and faster than humans(in some cases safer than humans like driving. )

8 Downside High initial cost
Possible increase in unemployment (in transition) Vulnerable to cyber threats Ethical issues Obviously our presentation does not deal with the possible negative effects of A.I development in the future but these are the possible problems we believe may arise as the field advances further. Expensive to build first…….during introduction there will be increase in unemployment but over time the human force will train for other jobs maybe programming these machines and maintenance etc Cyber crime will create danger to companies and institutions (cyber security is another field humans can benefit from as a new job) Ethical issues because of machines that look like humans. Does the way we treat these machines translate into real society ???
