Characterization Dynamic: A character who changes over time
Static: A character who never changes regardless of the situation Round: Reader sees multiple sides to this character Flat: Reader only sees one or limited sides to this character

Foils: A love/hate story
Foil: character(s) who provides contrast to another character Harry Potter series: Ron’s vs Hermione’s personalities Makes Harry seem more neutral/logical Helps the reader sympathize with the protagonist

The Supporting Cast Mom and Dad Mean sibling: older or younger
Loving sibling: older or younger The best friend The guide/teacher

The Supporting Cast The Bully The Nerd Symbolic (of spiritual figure)
Encourager: Emboldens character physically or mentally Contrarian: Cranky, but loveable
