Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono have recently agreed that Australia and Indonesia should jointly host the workshop. Dialogue continues between the two economies regarding conduct of the proposed workshop

4 Aim of Damage Assessment Techniques Proposal
To develop best practice guidelines for the conduct of post-disaster damage assessments To develop a post-disaster damage assessment resource tool for use by APEC economies following disasters

5 Proposed Outcomes APEC economies’ identification of:
Competencies and skills required to effectively and rapidly conduct of post-disaster damage assessments; The resources and logistics required to support post-disaster damage assessments

6 Proposed Methodology Australia and Indonesia to consult with member economies to develop a detailed program for the workshop. Conducted over three days and possibly including a field trip to have local experts in Indonesia describe the damage assessment issues that they have encountered

7 Proposed Methodology Prior to the workshop, the organisers would circulate a range of background documents on post-disaster assessment techniques, including case studies, to participating economies. Internationally-recognised subject matter experts, including relevant UN expertise (most likely from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), in post-disaster assessment would be sought to assist at the workshop.

8 Recommendation That the CEO Forum support the proposed APEC Damage Assessment Techniques Workshop and recommend to TFEP that they endorse the proposal, in response to the Work Plan direction for an initial ‘specialist subject area’ training workshop for the region.
