Relevance of ESCO initiative
Very diverse occupations Need for skilled workforce Increase of the technology High frequency of geographical mobility Initiatives from the social partners occupations competences education Very diverse occupations means that the 3 subsectors are being quite different and that in each sector you have very different type of jobs Need for skilled workforce: I would like to take these examples: knowledge of plant cycle in agriculture, mechanisation in forestry and veterinary knowledge in aquaculture Increase of the technology: this sector is like any other: technology is ever increasing High frequency of geographical mobility: this is a trend of the sector: ex. winemaking or forestry services abroad Initiatives from the social partners: social partners and the stakeholders took initatiatives: agripass and european traineeship in ag conctractors… "ESCO Goes Live", October 2013

The ESCO “guinea pig” Launch in March 2012 Methodology Organisation of work Scope of the sector Overlaps Launch in March 2012: we were one of the two sectoral Reference Groups Methodology: Mandate was (still is) clear but the methodology was the settled (panel, experts), coordination with maintenance group was clear Organisation of work: at that time: synapse was not yet operation, only one-day meeting, terminological guidelines not final… Scope of the sector: Although NACE code was used to set-up the reference group, we had to define precisely at different levels what was in the scope of our group (local types of jobs, landscape gardeners and vets in aquaculture in or out; farriers…) Overlaps: then we had to organise the request when there were overlaps. Challenges for ESCO Translations Synergy with other existing tools such as agripass.eu Synergy with national initiatives Maintenance – review of the system Translations: This is quite a challenge ! Synergy with other existing tools: we believe in the usefulness of ESCO but it has to create bridge with other initiatives such as Agripass Synergy with national initiatives: There are already operating systems describing occupations and competences (Rome, Competence) and some national stakholders are already basing their activities.
