1 Self-Talk and Sprint Performance in Youth Football Players
Hi, hello, welcome… thank you for being here Final presentation, hopefully you find it interesting and worthwhile – both in terms of your general enthusiasm as a Sports Studies student, and obviously with regard to your own Research Project. I am here to tell you about my topic, my question, and my research, which surround [Title] Self-Talk and Sprint Performance in Youth Footballer Players. Chris McLaughlin, SPSU9R7 - Friday November 20th 2015

2 Introduction – myself and the topic What? Why? How?
CONTENTS Introduction – myself and the topic What? Why? How? So very briefly, here’s what I am going to discuss today. I will introduce myself, and who I am, before the more important matter of introducing my topic. Then we’ll look at what Self-Talk is, what it involves, what it can do to performance. On top of that we’ll see what previous research has found and examine what gaps there are, if any, in the existing knowledge base. We’ll also discuss why self-talk gets used, why it is important, and why I have to do this exact study, in this way, now. Finally I will touch upon how we’re going to set this up, how I’ve came to these decisions and how we’re going to get from A-Z. (A being Week 1, Z being 11/04/15.)

3 As I’m sure you all know, my name is Chris
As I’m sure you all know, my name is Chris. I’m a 4th Year Sports Studies student here. I’m 20 years old, and my main passion both inside and outside of university is football and coaching it. I played football growing up in Cumbernauld since as far back as I can remember, and became disenchanted with the game and some of the so-called teaching I was receiving to the extent that I felt that I could do a better job, and set out to do so. So this is me… on the right, btw. This picture was taken on Phillip Island, in Victoria, Australia in March of this year. Last semester I spent 5 months at La Trobe University in Melbourne on exchange.

18 My Research Project Hypothesis: “It is hypothesized that sprint performance times will improve through the self-talk interventions. Furthermore, it is the belief of the researcher that a more pronounced improvement will be seen from the motivational self-talk group, due to the nature of the task being performed.”
