2 Somaliland Somaliland is a self-declared but internationally unrecognised state in the Horn of Africa. A civil war ending in 1991 destroyed much of Somaliland’s infrastructure and displaced many of its people. 4 King’s Somaliland Partnership
Since 2000, KSP has pursued a collaborative approach to health system strengthening, with a focus on higher education and training 150 volunteer experts developing and delivering our work, including NHS health workers and KCL academics 21,000+ hours donated by volunteers to-date 12 specialty areas, spanning clinical and non-clinical specialties Varied capacity building activities:

Examined every doctor and most nurses that have graduated since Somaliland’s founding Introduced mental health into the undergraduate medical curriculum and delivered basic psychiatry training to every doctor that has graduated since Pioneered online teaching: first organisation to deliver a programme of real-time, interactive online learning in a fragile state Fostered research skills: co-published 12 academic articles with Somaliland authors, representing 35% of Somaliland’s entire research output Deliver Somaliland's first Masters in Health Education in and fully hand-over to partner universities by 2022 Co-deliver training to double medical workforce by 2022

Our current work serves as a necessary stopgap until such in- country capacity exists.
