7 How does the Rural-Urban divide Impact Us?
On the Farm Use of shared roadways for agricultural equipment and the need to work together during planting/harvest season, and year-round for the safety of all Consumer Perception & Image Earn consumer trust with 3 to 4 generations removed from the farm Increase desire among consumers to know what is in their food and how it’s grown or produced Stewardship Prevent soil erosion through the use of cover crops Implement water conservation practices to reduce usage Judicious use of crop protection products on farm fields Sustainability Farmers are continually improving how they care for the land to grow more with fewer resources What things would you like to see UW/the public sector do to help? Facilitate Tours – Invite town officials, community civic groups to farms to build trust. Educate on Farm size – To build a profitable farming business to support multiple generations farms must grow and evolve like any business
