1. IMPRESSMENTS By early 1800’s Napoleon had conquered most of Europe.
England, protected by the English Channel and Royal Navy, stood alone. Britain began to search American ships for runaway British sailors. Between 1803 and 1812, nearly 10,000 American sailors were “impressed” into the English navy.

2. WAR HAWKS A faction in the US Congress pressed for war with Britain. Their goals were nationalistic and territorial; hoped to expel Britain from North America and then invade Canada. John Calhoun Henry Clay

3. INCITEMENT OF ABORIGINALS
The US accused Britain of inciting Indian tribes to fight for their homelands in the United States.

OUTBREAK OF WAR War was declared against Great Britain by US President James Madison on June 18, 1812.
