While the world was watching Hitler, Japan took the opportunity to invade
China and Southeast Asia for natural resources.

4. Pearl Harbor The United States stopped trading (oil) with Japan,
so the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

6. The leaders of Russia, the US, and England met to decide whether to
attack Hitler in Europe first, or the Japanese in the Pacific first.

7. They chose to stop Hitler first
and attacked him in France.

16. Germany surrendered and Hitler went to his secret underground bunker and
committed suicide.

17. FDR died in Georgia

18. Next, the Allies fought the Japanese in
the Pacific islands, eventually pushing them
all the way back to Japan-but they didn’t surrender.

19. Iwo Jima

27. Since Japan refused to surrender, the United States had scientists secretly working to build the world’s first atomic bomb.
The secret operation was code named “The Manhattan Project”.
