2 English I Absentee Policy 2016-2017 Phones/Technology Plagiarism
Ms. Pappas English I Course Syllabus Late / Incomplete Work Absentee Policy My expectation is that all work will be turned in completed and on time. Assignments are to be turned in when they are due (usually the beginning of class); any time after this is considered late. If an assignment is turned in a day late, it will be 10% off If an assignment is 2 days late, it will be 50% off. Any assignment turned in 3 days or later will be a 0%. *Essays and Large projects have a different policy which will be stated on the assignment ** Printer and Internet issues are not an excuse for late work. *If you know you are going to be absent or have printer issues, please me your assignment. It is the student’s responsibility to check Skyward, the class calendar, and the absent bin to find any assignments missed. A student has days absent plus one to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz/test was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz/test must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. Phones/Technology Cell phones are to be turned in on the day of a test. Failure to do so will result in a discipline referral and a zero on the exam. Phones should be off and put away during class time as it is a distraction for not only the student using their phone, but for others as well. This applies to other electronic devices and headphones. The student will receive ONE warning if caught using an electronic device without permission. After the warning, DTHS policy regarding electronic devices will be enforced. Plagiarism Cheating * The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. * The student will be given a zero for that particular test or assignment. * The student will receive a referral, and the student handbook’s consequence will be used. Plagiarism is cheating, and it is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own 5. Reusing your own or other’s old essays from previous/other classes Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. Scholar Dollars Students can earn scholar dollars for various reasons which can be used for possible extra credit, homework passes, various school supplies (erasers, decorative pencils, pencil grips, index cards, etc). These dollars are earned by answering questions, asking questions, helping others without being asked, helping to keep the classroom clean, etc.
