Localization of functionally distinct embryonic macrophage subsets in the developing heart.
Localization of functionally distinct embryonic macrophage subsets in the developing heart. Primitive yolk sac–derived CCR2− macrophages are located in the myocardial wall and promote the selective expansion of perfused coronary vasculature during development. In contrast, CCR2+ macrophages arise from lymphomyeloid progenitors and, to a greater extent, fetal liver monocytes. CCR2+ embryonic macrophages associate with the endocardial trabeculae and are dispensable for coronary development. Clinton S.
