Who should use this presentation & read code
Managers of staff & staff, and those responsible for visitors and contractors on STFC sites, who use ‘dangerous substances’ which may generate explosive atmospheres. Common examples include Solvents; Paints; Flammable Gases; and Dusts from machining & sanding operations etc.

Key features The Code addresses the requirements of the Dangerous Substances & Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 The Code establishes a framework to carry out simple assessments for: small quantities of flammable substances; and Controls for cylinders of flammable gas For more complex processes contact SHE Group for advice from specialist consultants

Key points For simple processes the risk assessment should consider :
The hazardous properties of a substance; The way in which it is stored or used; and The possibility of explosive atmospheres occurring Potential ignition sources. Also: The control measures to remove or control risks; Identification & classification of hazardous areas / zones; and Procedures to deal with incidents involving dangerous substances Then: Ensure employees are properly trained and informed
