Wood Supply unit, responsible within Stora Enso for: Forest operations in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia Buying wood from 7 countries; Selling wood to 5 countries Employees: 210 persons Incl. wood measurers 48 persons in 11 terminals Customers Stora Enso pulp and paper mills in Sweden and Finland and saw mills in Baltic; Wood consuming companies in Baltic day month year documentname/initals

Place and role of measurement in value chain
Measurement (evaluation) is essential part of every operation stage, beginning with evaluation of growing stock in forest, followed by loging operations and ended with end consumer. Crucial points in the chain are, where wood is shanging ownership Role Estimating volume Base for payment - monetary aspect Base for State reporting – statistic aspect Base for trust between buyier and seller – reliability aspect Base for fear competition within industry – competition aspect day month year documentname/initals

Expextations to measurement
To be trusted: Measurement must be based on valid standards, like in Latvia LVS 82:2003 Measurement must be proceeded by competent professionals, where competnce is understood as good knowledge applied into practice There must exist trustful controlling system day month year documentname/initals

Two ways to be relible in measurement practice
Impartial Measurement company, like VMF in Sweden, basing on agreement between sellers and buyiers organisations Mill own measurement, verified and controlled by impartial verification body basing on agreement between sellers and buyiers. Used in Finland day month year documentname/initals

Measurement unification situation round Baltic sea.
Three big player countries and several smaller players round the Baltic sea Traditions in big players contries has strong influence – as example Finland on bark, others under bark, slightly diferent formulas Internal markets for big players are more important, than external markets Same applies more and more to Baltic Is it possible to unfy international part without changing the domestic traditions? day month year documentname/initals
