Responsibility and Ethics
Mr. Martin, a grade 8 and 9 Social Studies and ELA teacher, is sitting in a staff meeting when Ms. Smith starts her Technology Update by stating that all staff must stop using Google Image Search as the source of their own and their students images for presentations, overheads, lesson plans, etc. due to copyright infringement. He is shocked because that's the source "everyone" has been using for ages. Other staff chime in with similar sentiments.

Social Implications Grade 5 and 6 students have been working on completing assignments in Photostory/MovieMaker/iMovie in preparation for Parent Teacher Night. They are adding the finishing touches to their products by adding music. Some students have brought in CD's they own while others have brought in music on flash drives or a list of sites to download the music for free. Mrs. Johnston, the principal, is amazed at the quality of work that is being produced and suggests they might use the completed products as a potential fund raiser for the upcoming camping trip in May.

Motivation and Confidence
A group of junior high students is involved in the creation of a video for a class assignment. The teacher takes them through the pre-production, production and post-production phases of creating their video. During the process, each student is able to focus on particular areas of strength - writing, storyboarding, videography, editing and promotion. The assignment must be a narrative form with out any talking by the actors. Background music must be selected from Creative COmons licensed music. The teacher has them use a wiki as a means of collaborating and recording their contributions. They post their finished product to YouTube for the class screening and display the video on their group wiki. Each member comments positively on what they learned in the process and their video receives positive feedback from their classmates.
