Leadership Communication Skills Communication skills can be broken down into three areas: Speaking Skills: Leaders need to clearly communicate their messages and both the sender and the receiver must have a clear understanding of the information that results from the communication. Listening Skills: Effective listening involves not only hearing, but also comprehending and understanding the message. Non-Verbal Behaviors: This means sending and receiving messages in a variety of ways without the use of verbal codes (words).
