1 Cameras for dummies! (not that any of you are dummies…)
Nadya’s equipment survey

2 Basics Light from image travels through lens,
Width of lens is field of view angle Sensor/film records image

3 The Aperture is the hole that lets the light into the camera
The wider the hole is, the more light is let in Aperture is measured in f-stops This can be confusing because the smaller number on the “f-stop”, the larger the hole Likewise, the larger the number on the f stop the smaller the hole

4 http://mpv.flashmn.com/idct/index.html Depth of field
The more light that comes in through the hole, the narrower the depth of field is The less light that comes in through the hole, the wider the depth of field is.

5 Shutter speed is less complicated
Shutter speed is how long light is let in through the hole The shorter the shutter speed, the less light comes in The longer the shutter speed, the more light comes in Short shutter speeds are used for settings with a lot of light, such as on a sunny day, or when the subject is moving quickly Longer shutter speeds are used with small amounts of light, like when taking pictures of a bridge
