Socio-cultural Perspective Importance of First Language Affective Filter Comprehensible Input Students need to be able to talk and interact. Collaboration strategies are especially important for learning language. Proficiency in the first language is going to help them when they are learning a second. Important for teachers to allow and respect the use of L1. Anxiety, motivation and self-confidence play a role. Teachers need to create an environment where students feel more comfortable taking risks.
