1 Project 2: IoT Device Vulnerabilities and Security REU Student: Bryan Pearson Graduate mentors: Kelvin Ly and Kaveh Shamsi Faculty Mentor(s): Dr. Jin and Dr. Zhang Week 4 (June 13 – June 17, 2016) Accomplishments: Configured raspberry pi to steal information (photos, music, etc.) off Android phones Read research paper on hijacking a quadcopter This may be our next project Issues/problems encountered: Raspberry pi cannot always detect a phone’s location This seems to depend on the Android’s connection type (PTP, MTP, USB) Script takes a long time to run Plans for next week: Start working on malicious app injection project when new Raspberry Pi arrives Consider updating/revising the current script

2 Hacking an Android The process:
Boot up the pi; script automatically runs at boot Constantly check for a device to be connected Upon connection, go through device’s media files Zip up files; to attacker Current implementation only works with USB connection Assume USB debugging is on All done in Bash - a free scripting language
