2. The colonies had governments within America, but the British were technically in charge. 3. The trip from England to America took about 2 ½ months by boat. 4. The colonies were divided into 3 groups: New England, Middle, & Southern colonies 5. The very first attempts at colonization were failures.

The Mayflower landed at Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts in 1620. 12. Georgia was named after King George III.
