2 Introduction Buddhism spread from China to Japan but changed along the way Three different denominations of Buddhism developed (Pure Land Buddhism, Lotus Sutra, Zen Buddhism) Suffering is a part of life

3 Pure Land Buddhism Amida Buddha Created paradise in the west
His believers chant his name when the sun sets Allowed freedom and happiness during a time of political disorder

4 Lotus Sutra Founded by Nichiren
He taught that the only truth was to be founded in the Lotus Sutra He believed all other denominations were false

5 Zen Buddhism Zen Buddhism taught that only physical and mental exercises would lead the awareness of nature The Samurai approved of the discipline and physical exercise They worked hard on seemingly impossible puzzles They did not believe in logic

6 Conclusion Zen Buddhism greatly influenced the medieval Japan
It taught that if somebody was in a hurry they can not experience nature fully Tea ceremony was influenced by Zen Buddism
