2 The Hippo pathway component Salvador (Salv) interacts with the Mst1/2 homologues of the Hippo protein, and this complex regulates phosphorylation of the Lats tumor suppressor gene. The Hippo pathway component Salvador (Salv) interacts with the Mst1/2 homologues of the Hippo protein, and this complex regulates phosphorylation of the Lats tumor suppressor gene. Lats in turn regulates phosphorylation of YAP. Phosphorylated YAP is excluded from the nucleus. Nonphosphorylated YAP interacts with both TEAD transcription factors and β-catenin, providing an important connection between the Hippo and Wnt/β-catenin pathways that controls cardiomyocyte number and proliferation.
