4 Data – Your competitive edge
It’s not just about voice, data communications can add value to your operation whether it is business critical or mission critical. Real-time information provides the vital link needed to make better decisions and operate more efficiently.

5 Benefits of Data What are your top most repeated routine tasks and processes ? Are they automated? If not could automation save time and ensure predictability? Use an application approach to support your existing processes Streamline work and present the information needed at each step in operations automatically. This will not only provide streamlining of your workflow, but will also help enforce processes and ensure quality.

7 TETRA DELIVERS MISSION CRITICAL DATA
When Data is needed the most, Public Networks are the least available MARCH 2004 MADRID BOMBINGS JULY 2005 LONDON BOMBINGS MULTIPLE INCIDENCES CARRIER NETWORK BLACKOUTS Coordinated bombings against the commuter train system three days before Spain's general elections A series of coordinated suicide attacks targeted civilians using public transport during the morning rush hour System failures in Carriers networks resulted in millions unable to make calls or send text messages TETRA DELIVERS MISSION CRITICAL DATA

9 TETRA Data Services A wide range of facilities from simple to feature rich Reliable communication Resource efficient IP Packet Data Connection oriented, Group Communications Circuit Data Simultaneous Voice & Data Up to 140 bytes, concatenated, Group Communications Short Data Fast pre/defined messages, Group Communications Status Messaging

10 Applications vs. Data Services
TETRA 1 SDS TETRA 1 Single slot PD TETRA 1 Multislot PD TEDS (TETRA 2) Location Based Services Database search Images on radio Slow Scan Video Streaming Video Not suitable Possible = meets user SLA ( service level agreement)

11 TETRA – SHORT DATA SERVICE (SDS)
140 Char messages Text Messages and Status Messages Concurrent voice and Short data (always available) Available in Trunked Mode, Direct Mode and Gateway Mode (always available) Secondary Common Control Channels (dedicated capacity) Individual and Group messaging Concatenation of text messages Very fast response times (low latency) Priority services

12 TETRA 1 - PACKET DATA Single Slot Packet Data
The basic IP data service in TETRA 1 Multislot Packet Data increases bandwidth up to 4 times Combining up to 4 single slots in one packet data channel Dynamically change the number of slots as voice load varies Co-existence of single and multi slot packet data A Multi slot radio can operate on a single slot channel if necessary Handover seamlessly between sites Handover seamlessly between PD and TEDS

13 TEDS -Tetra Enhanced Data Service
As seen from the user terminal and a network-connected server, TEDS is equivalent to the SSPD and MSPD TETRA 1 services. The differences are limited to the radio channels and air interface protocols. TEDS has the same TDMA FDD structure as Tetra 1 with 4 time slots per channel Two modes Conventional Access: Fully integrated with existing TETRA, uses existing TETRA control channel; Direct Access: Allows control channel to be provided on TEDS TEDS characteristics: 25, 50, 100 or 150 KHz Channel Bandwidth 8 subcarriers per 25 KHz; 2.7 KHz apart 4QAM, 16QAM or 64QAM modulation

14 Packet Data Comparison

15 TETRA Data Summary Tetra supports comprehensive set of data services capable of supporting a wide range of mission & business critical data applications

16 Introduction to TETRA Location Technologies

17 Can TETRA help GPS Enabled Options
Most TETRA Hand-Helds Most TETRA Mobiles Most TETRA Gateways Some products also support Glonass and other location standards The answer is yes! GPS is an option in most TETRA radios today. It is integrated into the products and optimised in terms of power consumption, performance and accuracy.

18 Can TETRA help 2 1 1 2 GPS for outdoor localisation
There are also systems available on several TETRA radios that are independent of GPS and are suitable for use as indoor location systems or where GPS coverage is poor. E.g. Dense building environment Shopping Malls Factory complexes Office buildings Etc. 1 GPS for outdoor localisation 2 Radio BEACON for indoor localisation

19 Location Accuracy Do I really know where my user is ? High Accuracy
Low Accuracy High Accuracy Knowing a location is only part of the story, it is vital to understand how accurate it is. Users are not tied to roads (SatNav) Accuracy could be the difference in responding in time or not. Visualisation systems need to be able portray the accuracy to aid decision making Knowing accuracy is just as important as knowing position

20 How can TETRA be utilised
TETRA services allow use of SDS messaging for transmission of location data: EN : TETRA Voice plus Data (V+D), part 2: SDS4 and SDS-TL delivers variable length messages to 2047 bits(255 bytes) GPS location data is provided in the NMEA formats, GLL, GSA, GGA etc. Typical GLL mesage could contain as much as 48 bytes of data! Terminal Manufacturers support compact location messages to minimise traffic Location Information Protocol –TS , TTR001_19 Specifies the effective use of network by using compact message formats Typical message (compared to GLL) is 11 bytes long

21 Location Information Protocol
LIP is a TETRA air interface optimized application layer protocol LIP can utilise the SDS-TL Service or the TETRA Packet Data Service LIP is location determination technology independent LIP can support a wide variety of location applications LIP optimises usage of air interface resources LIP is the TETRA standard for Location reporting and control

22 Location Information Protocol
Optimization considers both message size and the number of messages Message size is a compromise between the number of bits available and user requirements Two types of location report are available with LIP: Short location report Long location report

23 Location Information Protocol
Short Report Time Elapsed Longitude Latitude Position Error Horizontal Velocity Direction of Travel Reason for sending Long Report Time of Position; Longitude; Latitude; Location Circle with Altitude Horizontal Position Uncertainty; Location altitude; Horizontal velocity; Direction of travel extended Reason for sending The Short Report has a smaller number of elements and with restricted resolution for some of them, the Long Report provides more flexibility and resolution, but a longer message length

24 Location Information Protocol
Reason for sending codes Emergency condition is detected Immediate Position Request Maximum reporting interval Maximum reporting distance Power On Power Off Status Transmit Inhibit Mode ON Transmit Inhibit Mode OFF System access (TMO ON) Enter service (after being out of service) DMO ON Low battery Radio is connected to a car kit Radio is disconnected from a car kit Radio asks for transfer initialization configuration Arrival at a defined location Approaching Point User application initiated Lost ability to determine location Regained ability to determine location Leaving point

25 Location Information Protocol
Trigger Based Reporting Emergency condition is detected Power On Power Off Status Transmit Inhibit Mode ON Transmit Inhibit Mode OFF System access (TMO ON) DMO ON Maximum reporting interval Maximum reporting distance Enter service (after being out of service) Low battery Subscriber unit is connected to a car kit Subscriber unit is disconnected from a car kit Arrival at point Approaching Point Lost ability to determine location Regained ability to determine location Leaving point

26 Location Information Protocol
Over the air control of reporting parameters Basic Location Parameter Add/Modify Trigger Remove Trigger Location Reporting Enable/Disable Immediate Location Report Location Reporting Temporary Control Control is a very important part of APLS, being able to control how and when reporting is done, will determine how successful and useful an APLS system is.

27 TETRA - Meets the requirement
TETRA Products provide a location solution GPS enabled, indoor solutions TETRA provides an interoperable standard Location Information Protocol TETRA provides configurable control Timed, Distance, OTA control, Why, When, Where, efficiently Improves resource usage and enhances Safety Improves response time, Selection of most appropriate resource
