2 Purpose The Educator Accomplished Practices are set forth in rule as Florida’s core standards for effective educators. The Accomplished Practices form the foundation for the state’s teacher preparation programs, educator certification requirements, and school district instructional personnel appraisal systems.

3 Foundational Principles
The Accomplished Practices are based upon and further describe three (3) essential principles: The effective educator creates a culture of high expectations for all students by promoting the importance of education and each student’s capacity for academic achievement. The effective educator demonstrates deep and comprehensive knowledge of the subject taught. The effective educator exemplifies the standards of the profession.

Write and speak in a logical and understandable style, using appropriate grammar and sentence structure, and demonstrate a command of standard English, enunciation, clarity of oral directions, and pace and precision in speaking.

Recognize and demonstrate awareness of educational needs of students who have limited proficiency in English and employ appropriate teaching strategies

Demonstrate Mastery: Record of ESOL workshop attendance or endorsement Copy plan book pages reflecting the use of ESOL strategies and the Instructional Coach’s observation Sign-off sheet to verify required hours of ESOL Matrix of competencies for ESOL levels (A1-C1) Classroom observation

Use and integrate appropriate technology in teaching and learning processes and in managing, evaluating, and improving instruction.

Demonstrate Mastery: Computer generated tests, plan book, and/or grade book pages Portfolio documentation on use of technology Sample of student work using technology demonstrated in classroom Classroom observation Professional Learning Transcripts of courses taken in technology

Use assessment and other diagnostic strategies to assist the continuous development and acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the learner

Demonstrate Mastery: Sample test and description of the advantages and disadvantages of this type of evaluation Copy of plan book pages demonstrating the use of various assessment tools Sample of a students test results with analysis of their performances and how this information will be used to support the student’s learning in the future Rubrics, literacy folders, portfolios, etc. Workshop demonstration Interpretation of FSA test scores

Demonstrate Mastery: Document conferences, phone calls, open house, etc. Document way in which parents were encouraged to become involved in classroom projects Develop an online Parent Handbook Document ways in which parents were informed concerning classroom activities and lessons

Recognize signs of tendency toward violence and severe emotional distress in students and apply techniques of crisis intervention

Demonstrate Mastery: Read and discuss materials provided in this section with coach and guidance counselor then sign form provided Attend workshop on gangs and violence in schools Meet with school suicide intervention point person to learn the appropriate procedures for referring a student with severe emotional distress Dating and Violence certificate

Recognize signs of alcohol and drug abuse in students and know how to appropriately work with such students and seek assistance designed to prevent future abuse

Demonstrate Mastery: Complete ALL of the following: Read and discuss materials provided in this section with coach and guidance counselor and sign the form provided Review literature on this topic Discuss with the Instructional Coach and Guidance Counselor the procedures for referring a student suspected of using drugs or alcohol

Recognize the physical and behavioral indicators of child abuse and neglect and now rights and responsibilities regarding reporting
