4 Breakout Session Topics
Locating Nearly Lost Data (“Dark data”) BreakOut Session 2 Long Term Preservation of Originals BreakOut Session 3 Digitizing Technologies

5 BreakOut Session Topics (cont’d)
Metadata & Content Catalogues for At Risk Materials BreakOut Session 5 Long-Term Preservation of Digitized Materials

6 BreakOut Session 1 - Questions
How would you define “at risk” data? Can you detail an ideal situation for your data at risk? Do you have data that are at risk, what do they consist of, & have you made attempts to expose them?

7 BreakOut Session 2 – Questions
If the data have been completely scanned, what should be preserved? Originals, raw data, processed versions? If a set of records has been requested by no one for more than 50 years, should it be kept?

8 BreakOut Session 3 – Questions
Many levels of sophistication are available for “digitizing”. What criteria should be applied when choosing which technology is best? A scan is an observation of an observation. Are all scans created equal?

9 BreakOut Session 4 - Questions
To what extent do metadata records require the interpretation and involvement of the researchers originally involved in data collection? Is there a difference in terms of metadata requirements for “at risk” data vs. data not at risk? If so, what additional/different requirements exist for “at risk” data?

10 BreakOut Session 5 – Questions
Is it necessary to keep all historic digitized records? If so for how long? Does your organization have a policy related to the time period for data retention? Does your organization have a process in place for 1) defining levels of service, 2) versioning data, 3) de-accessioning data?
