2. W What is an Advocate? What does an Advocate do?
In 1 John 2:1 it is applied to Jesus “If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
The Greek word from which it is derived (Paraclete) has several shades of meanings: a legal advocate
An intercessor
A helper, generally
In the context of Touched by Hope, you will be your guests host and guide to all of the available goods and services we provide

3. TIMELINE
6:40 All volunteers register in the Narthex
After sign in, advocates walk through all areas of the church to familiarize themselves with where everything is located
7:10 All volunteers gather in the sanctuary for prayer & group picture
7:30 All volunteers are at their duty stations

4. TIMELINE (cont)
7:30 The first 5 groups of guests fill out registration forms with experienced advocates
7:45 First 5 groups of guests receive med/dental appts & are escorted to medical or dental clinics. Second 5 groups of guests fill out registration forms with experienced advocates
7:50 Second 5 groups receive med/dental appts & are escorted to clinics
8:00 Doors open for general admission

5. ADVOCATE PROCEDURES
Advocates will wait in the nursery hallway
When it is your turn, you’ll be led out the rear door (near the preschool) and matched up with your guest(s) in front of the double doors leading into the fellowship hall
Introduce yourself to your guest(s) and help fill out the registration forms
The most important thing to remember is to circle the services your guest(s) desire (see next three slides)

6. Guest Registration Form
Guest Number
- same as name tag
Assist guest in filling out form -- all entry is voluntary. Name is Needed.
Discuss available services
Circle any “appointment” service desired
Get signature - for Photo release only 6

Remember -- when you are in line with Guest Discuss which APPOINTMENT SERVICES they want. Do this even before you begin to fill out name and such. 7

8. APPOINTMENTS ARE LIMITED
THE FORMS WILL HAVE BLACK LINES THRU ANY SERVICES NO LONGER AVAILABLE !
Remember -- when you are in line with Guest Discuss which APPOINTMENT SERVICES they want. Do this even before you begin to fill out name and such. 8

9. ADVOCATE PROCEDURES (cont)
You will remain with your guest(s) at all times
Your entire party will stay together at all times (i.e. If one person in your group has a medical appt, then the whole group will go the the medical clinic.)
You will have lunch with your guest(s)
When your guest is ready to leave, you will accompany the guest out to the covered area outside the narthex
You will help your guest collect his/her clothing and food bags
You will accompany your guest to the parking lot or to his/her vehicle, if requested
Once your guest has left, go back to the nursery hallway to await assignment of another guest

Appointment Based Services (appts made as soon as you enter double doors)
Medical Screenings – upper level adult education rooms
Dental Screenings – lower level youth center
Vision Screenings – crying room (back left of the narthex)
Other Appointment Based Services
Spa (nails/haircuts/facials) - appts made in the spa area in the narthex
Family portraits – appts made and pictures taken in the conference room

11. SERVICES AVAILABLE (cont) No Appointment Required
Meals – Fellowship Hall
Clothing – Fellowship Hall
Book Store – Gallery (by the elevators)
Food Pantry – Café Area of the narthex
Prayer – Sanctuary
Counseling (Mental Health) – behind the medical waiting area in the upstairs adult education area

OTHER DETAILS
Uniforms: Shirts/T shirts and jeans or nice slacks
Though not required for volunteer work, Touched by Hope T shirts are available for purchase when you register to volunteer and T shirt sales are the only fundraiser for Touched by Hope
Touched by Hope Leadership Team will be wearing red T shirts
Spanish translators will be wearing yellow ball caps or visors
Cleanup begins at 1:05

13. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What happens if one of my guests needs a dental appt and one needs a dental appt? Do we all have to go to both & wait?
You do if you’re the only advocate for that group. Alternatively, you could split the group into 2 groups, each having its own advocate, go to the separate appts then meet back up in the cafeteria area.
Is there going to be someplace secure to leave my purse?
No. You will, however, have a nametag holder around your neck which will be big enough to also hold your phone, some ID and your keys. Leave your purse at home, or in your car with your coat.
