9 Acquisition Strategy Evolutionary
– Spiral development based on refined requirements and user feedback – Blocked approach based on continuous requirements definition and technology maturation Block I - Meets current challenges at a reduced cost by establishing standards and leveraging existing COTS solutions Block II and later - Based on future requirements, technology advancements, or training Utilize Prime Contractor- Lead Systems Integrator (LSI) to: – Supply and integrate range targetry - using qualified products – Field ranges – Provide New Equipment Training (NET) – Provide warranty coverage – Provide spare parts – Provide technical support

10 Program Goals Introduce performance standards and interfaces
Work towards hardware standardization Lower lifecycle cost of training targetry and increase training range availability Maintain wide industrial base Work towards joint use

11 NGATS Block 1 Schedule Activities FY04 FY05 FY06 Qualification Process
RFP Release (DRAFT) Block 1 Contract Award Design / Integrate Ft Pickett Ft Pickett Fielding

12 Summary Army has targetry challenges
NGATS provides effective soldier training systems that are: Standardized, Supportable, Interoperable Reliable, Available, Maintainable Realistic and Affordable NGATS significantly improves range operations: Reduced downtime Efficient scoring and training feedback Greater flexibility in range use and targetry asset management Reduced maintenance and operating cost End user support influence is being incorporated into NGATS specifications and documents through MACOM Master Gunners, and ATSC. Flexibility is gained through common interfaces allowing targets to be interchangeable between ranges and the open architecture allows new targets to be incorporated as they become available through the P3I block upgrades and improvements.
