3. When to use Formal Project Management
SCS has developed a consensus that a project will follow the SCS Project Management Methodology if the project is greater than 80 hours of effort, or if it is a highly complex project that will benefit from formal project management. Project Classifications will help determine the level of project management to use – e.g. fast track vs. very formal.

4. Project Management Lifecycle
All projects progress through the following lifecycle phases:
Project Initiation – the focus of today’s discussion
Project Planning – future discussion
Project Execution and Control – future discussion
Project Closure – future discussion

An individual proposes a project to develop a product or service
The project request proceeds through an approval process – assessments and approvals from OMT and SMT
A project manager is assigned to develop a Project Charter
The project is prioritized
