12 Suggestions for Supporting Students
Refer students to sources for legal counsel. Be a safe space for students to discuss the issues that they are facing. Connect students with faculty mentors and other campus resources. Examples of obstacles that mentors help students tackle include: Access to legal consultation. Assistance filling out DACA renewal forms. Ideas for securing financing to pay for DACA application fees. Issues related to on-campus employment. Issues related to off-campus employment. Provide guidelines to students regarding travel. Offer alternatives to international travel for students to complete degree requirements. Stay informed. Pay attention to current events. Reflect on your own world view and how that may shape how you approach students. Seek out opportunities to increase your understanding of how students are experiencing the political climate and shifting public policy.
