1 District Curriculum Specialist
Secondary Programs Summer Reading Antoinette Parker District Curriculum Specialist April 05, 2018

2 Summer Reading The purpose of summer reading is to encourage students to practice reading skills and develop an enjoyment for reading. An information packet will be shared with parents, students, and teachers to include: expectations, commonly asked questions, suggested novels, how to access novels, and “book talk” framework. The packet will be available on the HCS website and in paper form. Students will read one of the novels from the list for their grade span or a novel of their choice.

3 Summer Reading Students in Honors, AP, and IB English will have an additional reading assignment which will also be posted on the HCS website. Students will complete a “book talk” project on their selected book and submit it no later than August 17, 2018. A “book talk” tries to convince or persuade a person to read the book. The essence of a “book talk” is to “sell, don’t tell.”
