7 History of Slavery Throughout history slavery has existed in all parts of the world including Africa. Slaves come from all walks of life, they were not just the disadvantaged.

8 The Atlantic Slave Trade
Shortage of labor in America led to the slave trade. Large numbers of worker were needed to work the plantation farms of America. As a result millions of Africans were forced to the Americas.

9 The Trade Route Triangular Trade: trade route between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Middle Passage: Route from Africa to the Americas in which millions of slaves were shipped. The journey sometimes took 6 months!!!

14 In the Colonies Once in America most slaves worked on plantations.
Other slaves worked in mines, in towns, and the countryside.

16 Effects of Slavery The Atlantic Slave Trade lasted for 400 years.
15-20 million Africans were shipped to the Americas, and some others to Europe. End Result: African Diaspora = African culture and people of descent spread throughout the Americas and Western Europe.
