11 Independent Clauses (IC)
Definition: A group of words that includes a subject, a predicate, and can stand alone as a complete sentence. What does Lady Gaga represent? - independence, not dependent on others to survive, just like an IC can be alone Lady Gaga is eccentric She pushes entertainment to new levels * notice: no periods

12 SIMPLE SENTENCE Simple Sentence: an independent clause (IC) with a period at the end IC: More fathers should be this involved in their child’s lives Simple Sentence: More fathers should be this involved in their child’s lives. IC: I wonder if Mom knows about this mermaid costume Simple Sentence: I wonder if Mom knows about this mermaid costume.

13 Simple Sentences Note: Simple sentences may contain compound subjects, compound predicates, or phrases Note: A simple sentence has no set length. The family and I don’t always coexist.
