Do now: Turn to page 128 in your SB book. Read “Unpacking EA2” Make a bulleted list of all of the things you need to do for your final EA. As a class, we will create a graphic organizer of the components of this EA. Copy this into your notebook.

Read the sample style analysis essay on Edgar Allan Poe. In the MY NOTES section, list each element of style. Highlight key details that describe Poe’s style.

Turn to page 133 in your Spring Board book Have them highlight the Literary Terms on this page: Main Idea, Biography, and Autobiography Read the Before Reading section together as well as the Biographical Essay on page 133. Answer the Key Ideas/Details questions on the side of the essay. Complete the After Reading exercise together on page 135.

Target: Mood and Tone in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Copy the definition of MOOD on page 136 into your notebook. Read Passage 1 on page 137. As you read, highlight diction, imagery, and details that help you identify atmostphere or predominate emotion in the text. In other words, identify MOOD! Fill out the chart on page 138

Now, turn to page 139 in your SB book.
Highlight the novel excerpt, focusing on TONE. Highlight words that help to identify the author’s attitude toward the children he describes. List those words in the graphic organizer. Fill in adjectives for TONE.
