VUSE EECS LAB ASSESSMENT SYSTEM
CHRIS POPP, CLAYTON DAVIS, AIMAN SHAHARUDDIN, SYUKRI SHAHARUDDIN Project Overview Hardware Design We have developed a customized grading software system for the Vanderbilt department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Why? Because :- All EECS students must take lab courses Individual TAs grade students differently TAs may look for different errors or have a different interpretation of report requirements Need a standard, fair grading system across all students Development Server Temporary server used to develop database system and website Dr. Dozier’s server in FGH 258 - Dell PowerEdge 1300 - Pentium 3 Xeon processor - 512MB RAM, SCSI JBOD array Gentoo Linux Apache httpd server PHP Hardened MySQL Hosted on eecsgrades.vuse.vanderbilt.edu Deployment Server Permanent sever to host completed database and website Administered by EECS department (Hampton Albert) Microsoft Windows Server 2003 - Microsoft Internet Information Server 6.0 (IIS) - MySQL - PHPMyAdmin 2.8.2 Hosted on eecs.vanderbilt.edu Project Sponsor Software Design Lason L. Watai Lecturer in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science In charge of EECS Labs Wants fair grading across all students Developed set of specific, concrete criteria called the grading rubric - Consists of individual questions that can be answered with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ Wants a database system to store students’ results - This system can show statistics of students grades by student, section, and course for evaluation purposes Designed using PHP, HTML and JavaScript System interface is accessed via web browser Importing/Exporting Method created to import grading rubric in comma-delimited CSV format - CSV is a basic form of an Excel spreadsheet - Same importing method can be modified to insert class rolls in the future Method created to export grades information to Excel and Word format Outside Resources TableKit : Sortable, editable HTML table enhancements using Ajax DD Tab Menu : Standards compliant, two-level tab menu Chained Select Menu : Allows the “chaining” of any number of selection lists together in an interdependent manner, creating a multi-level form menu Database Schema Network Diagram Project Requirements Menu System Flexible and expandable system that can be modified to fit future needs Secure system that will protect all students’ grades and personal information Easy to use system that can be used with elementary computer abilities Efficiently organized and structured database schema Statistical and evaluative methods to analyze students and courses Provide useful analytics to assist with ABET documentation Admin Home View Profile View Users View Courses View Labs Upload Rubrics Grade Labs Analysis TA Home View Profile View Enrollments View Students View Labs Grade Labs Analysis Instructor Home View Profile View Enrollments View Users Analysis Student Home View Profile View Enrollments View Grades *Admin is authorized to add, delete, and edit data *TA is authorized to view and grade labs *Instructor and student are authorized to view only [ ]
