Symbolism – the use of symbols to represents ideas or qualities.

5 Second example: In william blakes "ah! sunflower'', the sunflower represents people and the sun represents life.

6 Third example: In samuel taylor coledridges "the rime of the ancient mariner'', the albatross can be seen as standing for a burden you must bear.
