1 Spaced-Out System Review
By: Tabitha Hughes

2 Lunar Cycle There are 8 phases in the moon phases cycle. Each phase is 3.5 days apart. The first phase is called the New Moon, you can’t see any part of it. The next phase is called the Waxing Crescent, on the right side you can only see a little sliver. After that comes the First Quarter, half of it is visible because that is the only part of the moon that we see that is lit up by the Sun. Next comes the Waxing Gibbous phase, ¾ of it is lit. After that comes the Full Moon! All of the Full Moon is able to be seen and lit! After the full moon is the Waning Gibbous, ¾ you can see. The ¼ that you can’t see is on the right side. Next comes the Last Quarter, it is not the last phase though. Only half of it is noticeable which is on the left side. Then comes the Waning Crescent, the ¼ that is visible is on the left side. Then the phases start over again.

3 Models of our solar system
This is a linear model of our solar system. Here are some of the advantages… -shows the order -side view -compares the sizes -shows details Disadvantages… -doesn’t show actual size -Sun is not shown in the center -doesn’t show actual length apart This is a circular model of our solar system. Here are the advantages… -shows orbital paths -Sun is in the middle -top view Disadvantages… -not showing the 3-D orbital paths -not actual size -not true distance apart ASTEROID BELT Asteroid belt

4 Characteristics of the Sun
-92% hydrogen and 7.8% helium times Earths gravity -4.8 billion years old -15 million km away from Earth -diameter of 870,000 m

5 Telescopes help us see outer space using large mirrors or glass lenses
Rotate Revolve Turn outward Turn around an axis Cause to turn on an axis Move in an orbit It takes the Earth 365 days to revolve around the Sun Telescopes help us see outer space using large mirrors or glass lenses The path that planets orbit is called the Orbital Path. Solar system models are helpful because they help us compare sizes and they also show details of the planet, star, etc. Lets say that on May 15th there was a full moon, the next new moon would be on May 29th

17 Here are the planets axis
AXIS-the line about which a rotating body, such as the earth, turns. Here are the planets axis

18 Gravity Gravity is the force that keeps the Earth revolving around the Sun, it is the force that keeps the planet revolving around the Sun. Without it the planets and object would be everywhere in space because the less gravity the less gravitational pull.

19 Tides A high tide occurs twice a day. A low tide occurs twice a day too. Time July 8th July 9th 8:00 AM 1ft 0.8ft 11:00 PM 47ft 39ft 1:00 2.3ft 2.4ft 5:00 37ft 50.7ft

20 Sunlight in summer Sunlight in winter

21 The Moon It takes the moon a 28 days to revolve around the Earth. It also takes the Moon 28 days to rotate. Even though the moon rotates, why do we always see the same side of the moon? We see the same side of the moon because over millions of years Earths gravity affected the Moon until it became gravitationally “stuck” to the Earth.

22 The Sun is in the center of our solar system
The Sun is in the center of our solar system. The Earth revolves around the Sun. The Moon revolves around the Earth.

23 Sun Earth Moon -92% hydrogen and 7.8% helium
-The only planet known to support life -No atmosphere -No life -Lots of craters -Only planet covered ¾ in water -We can use sunlight to create solar energy -4.8 billion years old -1.52 sec if we traveled by the speed of light from Earth to the Moon -3rd planet from the Sun -The Sun is a star -The Sun is 4.54 billion years old -Takes up 99.86% of the solar systems mass -There is no weather -Earth may had 2 moons -Creates tides on Earth because of gravity -Earth has 20 million tons of gold -Diameter is 110 times larger than Earths
