4 Inferences Sometimes writers give information or express ideas directly ( or explicitly). Other times, they convey their meaning indirectly ( or implicitly). When this is the case you need to infer or read between the lines.

5 Inferences Making inferences is about connecting the dots between what is stated and what is not stated. As a reader, you must combine what the passage says with your background knowledge to make the best possible guess or inference.

6 Inferences are evidence-based guesses
An inference is a logical guess based on analysis. Form inferences by analyzing: Objects Emotions Events Facts Ideas Inferences are evidence-based guesses
