Model Farm is a small vigneron project which began in 2013 and led by Winemakers Joanna Wells and Sean Castorani.
The two farm their vineyard and hand-make the wines in order to truly understand the intimate relationship between the vineyard and wine.
Model Farm is all about the process and how rewarding it is being fully invested and engaged in every step of the winemaking process.

2. KEY SELLING POINTS
Fruit sourced from the Petaluma Wind Gap and organically farmed by hand. Planted to three selections of Syrah with vines being over 20 years old. A mix of Clear Lake clay and Diablo clay. The climate is cool and the breezy, and the early fog rolls in every day.
100% whole cluster, native yeast fermentation carried out in one-ton stainless steel tanks. Punch downs were done by foot and the wine was raised in one 100% neutral French oak puncheon for 18 months.

Winemaker Joanna Wells, is also associate winemaker for famed Vintner Jamie Kutch and has learned much about cool climate winemaking from her mentor. Kutch was recently awarded PinotFile’s “2017 Wineries of the Year”
v. 2014: 97 pts. "This beauty is a dead ringer for a Northern Rhone Syrah or even a Wind Gap Nellessen or Sonoma Coast Syrah. Olive, bramble, and graceful fresh fruit jump out of the glass. Earth and mineral mixed in there too. Perfectly balanced on the palate, not too much acid or tannin and energetic and full at the same time. Whole cluster deliciousness.
